Make Your Meal at Five Guys Gluten-Free!

Five Guys is an excellent option for those with gluten intolerance because there are many ways to make a meal at Five Guys gluten-free!

Five Guys Restaurant Options
Five Guys is a fast food restaurant that serves American cuisine: Burgers, hot dogs, fries, and shakes. Surprisingly, the majority of the items they offer are gluten-free. For full allergen information, please click here to access this page of their website.
Here is what they have available in the store to let you know what items contain gluten:

I am really impressed with Five Guys as they provide many options for those with gluten intolerance and are also aware of how to prep food properly so as not to cross-contaminate. I have been to Five Guys many times, and each time has been consistently the same. When I place an order, I mention I have an intolerance to gluten, and they follow up with this question:
Do you have a gluten allergy, or is eating gluten-free a choice?
I usually say, ‘I have an allergy,’ as explaining an intolerance can get complicated. This also allows me to observe how they prepare the food, as with an allergy, they will pay special attention to the way they make it.
Each time I have ordered there, I watched the staff pay attention to cross-contamination issues by changing gloves, cleaning the area where they cook the burger, as well as the area where they will be preparing my food. The cooks call out as well to alert everyone that someone has placed an order that has an allergy (not embarrassingly lol, just a few words to make sure everyone is paying attention).
One important note: Five Guys does not have gluten-free buns, though. They offer, instead, a burger in a bowl, or you can get it wrapped in lettuce.
You are able to make special requests as well since their burgers are fresh and cooked to order in terms of what is added to your burger, condiments, sauces, etc.
I chose a lettuce wrap hamburger, and it was delicious!

Are Five Guys’ Fries Gluten-Free?
Yes!!! Five Guys’ fries are freshly cut potatoes soaked in water, and the only item that goes in the fryer are the fries. That is amazingly unheard of at most fast food chains by the way.
Note: They use refined peanut oil for their fryers, so if you have a peanut allergy, please keep this in mind. The reason behind refined peanut oil, though, is that it removes the peanut protein from the oil, which is the primary cause of the allergic reaction.

Free Peanuts at Five Guys
Just like chips and salsa at your favorite Mexican restaurant while you are waiting on your food to arrive, Five Guys has free peanuts! These are in the shell and in crates in the restaurant itself for you to scoop.

Five Guys Shakes
Unfortunately, I have lactose intolerance as well (lucky me, I know lol), and there is one thing I know for a fact always upsets my stomach, and that is milk. Although I absolutely love shakes, they don’t like me!
From everything I’ve read, though, the shakes are fantastic and start with a vanilla base. Then, from there, Five Guys has a ton of mix-ins to add to the shake. A lot of the mix-ins are gluten-free, but there are two that I can see that are not gluten-free: Oreo Cookies and Reese’s Cups.

Overall, an excellent option for the gluten-intolerant, go make a meal at Five Guys gluten-free, I don’t think you will regret it!
